I heard something that I haven't heard in years that was music to my ears... a needle skipping on a record. It may not seem like something that a person would want to hear, but let me tell you, I loved it. I heard it while I was at the Vintage Vinyl event that was put on by DJ Carbon and Skratch. 2 DJ's, 4 turntables using nothing but records. You remember those right?
Coming up in the era when you didn't use laptops I was eager to go and listen to the music that was going to be played. I wasn't there just for the music, but also to watch the DJ skills that were on display. See the great thing about this event is that, possibibly someone could mess up. A needle might skip, or get dropped in the wrong place on the record. Or maybe while scratching a record something might go wrong, or you can easily miss a cue to begin your next blend. So when you realize that 2 DJ's are rocking, having fun and playing great music without anything happening (except maybe one record skipping because it has a slight scratch), it makes it all that much more impressive. Plus it gave me a very nostalgic feeling because when I as many other DJ's were coming up, there weren't any laptops... just records.
Too make things even better, there were Bboys there dancing as well. Hip-Hop at its best! Check out some of the pix I snapped below. ~ @RoyceOnTheRadio
